Verrucae are very common in adults and children and can generally be self-treated with “over the counter solutions” from a pharmacist. Children’s verrucae in particular, will often spontaneously clear on their own. However stubborn and painful verrucae may need professional attention. At Advance Podiatry, we can apply stronger medicines than you can get at the pharmacist and offer the following treatments:
- Dry Needling
A technique where the verruca is broken down using needles. After the patient has been given local anaesthetic we take a small amount of the verruca to a deeper layer of the skin, allowing the body to recognise and attack it.
- Cryotherapy
We use liquid nitrogen to freeze the verruca to -196C and remove it. local anaesthetic is used if required. This works well with small single verrucae.
- Swift Microwave Therapy
We offer Swift microwave therapy for the treatment of stubborn painful verrucae. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected part of your foot. We find that this is a most effective way of treating stubborn verrucae. Click here to find out more about Swift microwave therapy.
